This about our basset hound named Wanda. She was born in August 2002. She was diagnosed with glaucoma in 2005. Please donate to help pay for Wanda's medicine (and maybe operations) by using the Paypal button above. Thank you so much to anyone who helps in any way.
It has been a long time. But Wanda has had an expensive operation to remove her eyes. The Glaucoma worsened as time went on and this was the last option left. She did get 2 prostetic eyes implanted though. Here are some pictures of the first day after the operation. Today she started feeling better, but she still has not eaten..
Wanda has been doing ok I guess. It really feels like I am repeating the same thing here - which maybe is a good thing because it could be worse. :)
Anyway, she has had her ups and downs. I am only giving her travatan and the trusopt once a day and it seems to be keeping the glaucoma in check. When we take her for walks she pulls really bad - she follows her nose even more than before! I actually aggregevated an old knee injury recently after taking her for a walk. My knee is ok again now.
Wanda really sleeps most of the day and gets at least one walk a day. We are out of travatan and I will have to pick some up for her tomorrow. Also, she should probably go see the vet again, but I don't think there is much he will be able to do. Since she still has some sight left, an operation is not an option at this time. I hope the pain is not too much for her.
I will post a picture shortly.
I should say I have been thinking of trying to find a good home for her. Maybe there is someone out there with a good heart and a few dollars to spare that would like to have her. My family will take this very hard, but maybe it is the best option. I wonder if we are doing the best we can for her sometimes.
Hi to anyone who is reading this. Spring is finally here and Wanda insists on a walk early every evening. She had a terrible day yesterday - her eyes were clouded over and she seemed to be in pain despite the medicine. Today, for no real reason, her eyes seemed a lot better. The ups and downs of glaucoma really gets too much sometimes.
My wife noticed an ad in the paper for a basset hound puppy. The pet store is asking $1,295 for the poor little guy! I think people buy pets from pet store's to rescue them to some extent. What kind of life does a puppy have (especially a basset hound) in a pet store? So if anyone wants to rescue the guy let me know and I can send the phone number along.
I will post some recent pictures of Wanda later on. Thanks to anyone who cares about Wanda. She has become symbolic of a lot of things to us.
Ok I promised no more pictures of her sleeping, but you have to admit these are special. :)
Also, many thanks to two people that donated $25 total - this paid for most of Wanda's Trusopt that I had to puchase a few days ago. It has been raining and Wanda has not been in great shape over the last 2 days.
